During months-long mis­sions, Astronauts expe­ri­ence var­i­ous aspects of social iso­la­tion and con­fine­ment. Our main aim is to study the fea­si­bil­ity of a vir­tual real­ity sen­sory stim­u­la­tion aug­men­ta­tion called Virtual Earthgazing (VE). The VE expe­ri­ence is designed to elicit an “overview effect” of the Earth and induce the feel­ing of awe, which has been shown to expand time per­cep­tion, increase empa­thy, and enhance well-being.
