iSpaceLab Presentations at SIGGRAPH 2025 in Our Hometown of Vancouver

The iSpaceLab is thrilled to announce our presence at the upcoming SIGGRAPH 2025 conference. This year is especially exciting for us, as the premier conference on computer graphics, XR, and interactive techniques is taking place right here in our hometown of Vancouver, Canada.

We are proud to have our researchers and collaborators presenting a diverse range of projects that showcase our commitment to exploring the future of immersive experiences, from how to tackle CyberSickness to speculative interactive art.

If you are attending SIGGRAPH, we warmly invite you to connect with us and explore our work. Here is a guide to where you can find the iSpaceLab team and our projects throughout the week:

Featured Course: Tackling Cybersickness with the VR Comfort Stack

Bernhard Riecke will be teaching the course, “VR That Doesn’t Make You Sick: Understanding & Mitigating Cybersickness.” This session will provide developers, designers, and researchers with a new systemic framework—the VR Comfort Stack—for understanding the root causes of cybersickness. The course introduces “predictive fidelity” as a core principle for creating more comfortable, effective, and accessible immersive experiences.VR_comfort_stack_pyramid

Art Paper: Reimagining Reality with Synedelica

John Desnoyers-Stewart will present our Art Paper on “Synedelica,” a unique mixed reality project. This synesthetic experience transforms the real world into a dynamic playground of light and sound, modulated by the user’s voice. Synedelica encourages creative expression and aims to rekindle a sense of childlike wonder in our everyday surroundings. Synedelica Poster

Presentation: Exploring Connection in Space Echo 2.0

PhD student Hyun Cho will present “Space Echo 2.0,” an experimental VR art project that explores the nature of social interaction. The experience introduces deliberate barriers to communication between two participants, investigating the paradox of whether making communication more difficult can foster a deeper and more meaningful sense of emotional intimacy.spaceEcho04

Welcoming a New Member: Elan Tao Presents FungiSync

Finally, we are thrilled to officially welcome Elan (Yilen) Tao to the iSpaceLab, where she will begin her graduate studies this fall. Elan is already a seasoned professional from the esteemed Reality Design Lab, and she will be presenting her fascinating project, “FungiSync.” This speculative installation explores new avenues for human-nature connection through digital media. We are proud to celebrate her work as she joins our community.FungiSync

It promises to be an inspiring week for the computer graphics, XR, and interactive techniques community. If you see any of our team members at the conference, please don’t hesitate to say hello!
